  TEAK Burma

TEAK Burma

TEAK CROWN TEAK Botanical Name: Tectona grandis Origin: South and Southeast Asia Description: The best logs for veneer production are mostly found in Burma (Myanmar) and Thailand. This oily timber has been used commercially for a variety of purposes over very many years and was hugely popular as a veneer for domestic and office furniture in the 1960’s and 70’s. More recently carefully controlled felling has taken the place of earlier indiscriminate exploitation of this species and much is now plantation grown. Most logs are flat sliced or first cut into thirds or quarters in order to produce as much crown material as possible, with some rift-cut production where good runs of straight grain are needed. The colour varies from light golden brown to darker brown, and may be plain self-coloured or be overlaid with narrow dark lines. The latter is usually referred to as stripy Teak. Teak is also available in 1.5mm and 2.5mm thickness.
